Help Uli

Gosh, I'm stuck.
I had my bachelor first idea crit yesterday and our head master thinks I'm taking a wrong turn in trying to create creative mind release with creative objects. He thinks I need more contrasts. To clear ones head, the mathematicians does art, the artist does something opposite of art.

Now I'm thinking about smells... and the touch of different surfaces, temperatures, elements.

But all in all, I need to take s step back and ask you:
What do you think of when I say dreamspace? (an existing place, not in your mind)
What is your dreamspace?

Any answer is a good answer!

  1. Oh, I know exactly how you feel. I have one month on me to come up with an idea for a new animation film.
When I read dream space, I think of a dream. And the space in it. It somehow is there, but undefined. And also think about a film I've made. It's called "Under" (the plot unwraps in a dream or subconscious). I think I can't detach myself from that kind of dream space anymore. Word "Dream space" will always remind me of the space in the film. That space exists only around the events , happening at the moment. Afterwards it just stops to exist...
    I hope it helps...
    Good luck!

  2. Dreamspace is the place in my mind, where EVERYTHING can happen in exactly the same moment when I want it. Dreamspace is the space of perfect synchronization my dreams, my desires, my needs with the time when I want this. It's an enormous WORLD belongs to noone, but me. It's my own and it's always on my call. Dreamspace is the reason why I'm not alone.

  3. Dreamspace . . . A space where everything is beautiful and perfect, calm with music somewhere where I can fly and dance in beautiful dresses and its dawn and light glitters through a thousand prisms making rainbows all at once, where there is nothing scary. Thats my dream space where I am free and happy and calm and theres nothing in my way !

  4. Billowing curtains and greys. Soft intangible textures.

  5. I would describe my dreamspace as a moment in time actually...usually the moment when I wake up, when I feel slightly numb and it's like everything around me is soft and has not yet regained its hard edges.

  6. The word dreamspace reminds me of those certain moments in the day where I'm completely lost in thought. I guess that's not a physical place, but I think the location is interchangeable. It's about what triggers the thoughts and rush of emotion..something that conjures up nostalgia..senses that are tied to memory. I think a dreamspace is anywhere one can feel comfortable enough to get lose in his or her own head. I think of being in nature..or laying in bed late at night not being able to sleep. It's this in between space that feels separate from reality. It's a place of isolation or inspiration, whatever that entails..just moments of freedom. Running through an open field, driving past my grandparents old house, walking the streets of a foreign city..I believe the word "sensucht" describes this feeling. ttrostle.tumblr.com

  7. My dreamspace is my room, the place that is so absolutely me that dreaming away couldn't be easier. So dreamspace to me means the place where I can dream, cosy and personal and private.

  8. When I think of dream space i think of beautiful animals, trees, colors, campfires, dreamy music, feathers, clouds. I imagine it as a place where time is undefined.

  9. Narnia, a cliff overlooking an ocean coast, a road with canopied trees...any place that makes you have to stop and just look...I live in a city and I always find myself looking up at the tops of buildings, taking in the detail of the architecture with the sky as a background--it's a place you don't look at often and almost seems like a different world. It never ceases to inspire or calm me.

Tack tack tack.

  11. dream space
I am Dutch and I will try to explain in English what pops in my mind:
sounds come to you like while being under water
    softer, not clear
the color red, like in an uterus
    it is safe en warm
    smiling, happy

    something like that?!

    good luck!
    I have been there

  12. dreamspace to me is my imagination, and a fairy tale like place i come up with. But in literal terms, my dreamspace would be the summer house at the bottom of my garden, where i can sit and think!

  13. A dreamspace for me looks something like The Science of Sleep. A place where one can create little worlds of their own making, with fluffy clouds and cardboard animals. That coupled with anything billowing, soft, hazy, pale pinks and creams. That is my dreamspace.

  15. m Dreamspace.. Something like lucid dreaming. But in physical world- nature or some place, where city lifes laws doesn't count.

I also have been there, where your ideas are totaly turned down just because one serious man doesn't think that's what people need.
But you are the princess of imagination, so I'm sure, you will be fine :) Don't stop dreaming!

  16. Being on top of a mountain, or in a forest, or in a field when the world is silent. When you are able to get a slight perspective of yourself in the world and reflect on it. Just, appreciating and basking in the things around you and the silence that is so powerful.

  17. Maybe you can do something under water..?
    Photographs or a short movie..
A lot of people here think of time and moments
and under water your movementspeed is reduced so..
+ it allways gives beautifull / dreamy pictures : )
But yea, with so much help.. you'll find it!

  18. A space that allows you to play free. Dream in a sleep is often full of the symbolic meanings and also something from the day passed awake. In dreamspace time has different lengts. You can meet a person from your past, future or from death or from a story. Its a fantastic place. Could you design a space where one can have great dreams. Creative pillows and mattress and a dreamlog for writing up your dreams. Go Uli! dream on..

  19. When i first heard the word "Dream Space" I thought of a giant loft. Just one big room without any unnecessary walls(aside from the four walls needed). Also i imagine the walls are all windows. That would be my dream space because i like a lot of room and a lot of light with minimal things around me. Except for perhaps a sewing machine in the corner, and a book shelf set aside for all of my art supplies.
I hope that helps. Good Luck Ulrika!

  20. I'm currently reading J.M. Barrie's "Peter and Wendy" (original novel of Peter Pan), and when I read dream space I think of Neverland:

"I don't know whether you have ever seen a map of a [child's] mind... There are zigzag lines on it, just like your temperature on a card, and these are probably roads in the island, for Neverland is always more or less an island, with astonishing splashes of colour here and there, and coral reefs and rakish-looking craft in the offing, and savages and lonely lairs, and gnomes who are mostly tailors, and caves through which a river runs...

Of course the Neverlands vary a good deal. John's, for instance, had a lagoon with flamingos flying over it... while Michael, who was very small, had a flamingo with lagoons flying over it... But on the whole the Neverlands have a family resemblance, and if they stood still in a row you could say of them that they have each other's nose, and so forth. On these magic shores children at play are for ever beaching their coracles." - pg 9

  21. The sea. Walking mindlessly through a forest. Hard exercise. Gazing at the horizon. Sunbathing at the beach. Sitting in a secret, hidden, place where I can see everyone and everything but no one can see me. These are the best awake times and places for dreams to reach me.

  22. Dreamspace for me would be a place with soft textures (snow!!), billowy clouds, high up with a view of a lake/river, muted colors, and birds chirping.

  23. Dream space for me is those abandoned places through out the world. The abandoned tivolies, apartments, houses, gardens, abandoned fabrics. It is places which once where full of dreams and still summer hums with the feel of lost or perhaps found dreams. Did people move on to better or worse? What were their dreams? You'll never know, but you can always try imagining. It is here I find peace in mind.

  24. A few dreamspaces that come into my mind: Lake Louise @ sunrise, Mt. Rainier in the summer, Angkor, Taj Mahal in the mist, Eastern Coast of Taiwan, Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone, Cappadocia, ......

  25. When I was little I always liked those stories about the hidden spaces between waterwall, or a secret tree house. Also I liked a lot self made snow castless with candles in it and lot of tunnels where to go. Only when I was small I actually fit there. I also fit then behind the fridge what was a great place to hide.

Hello from Berlin where is many cool places and spaces.

  26. My dreamspaces are in Icelande. I have never been there so I can still dreaming about that beautiful country...
Good luck :) I love your creations.

  27. Being inside of Bjork's "music space"...
